Your ledger stays on your phone. Cleared has no account, no sign-in and no server. Accounts, transactions, categories, payees, scheduled entries and receipt photographs are stored only in the app's private storage on your device, and are never uploaded by Cleared. The only parts of Cleared that use a network are the advertising banner, Google Play's purchase process, and sharing an account with another phone on your own Wi-Fi, all described below.
All of the following is held in the app's own private storage, readable only by Cleared:
Uninstalling Cleared deletes all of it from the phone. Nothing is held on any server of ours, because Cleared has none.
Cleared can write a backup file, or export your transactions as CSV. These are written only where you choose, using your device's own file picker — a folder on the phone, or a cloud drive if you point it at one. The file contains your ledger, and your receipt images too if you switch that option on.
Once a backup leaves the app it is yours to look after. If you save it to a cloud service, it is then covered by that service's privacy policy, not this one.
Android can back up apps to your Google account and copy them to a new phone. That is a setting of your device, not of Cleared, and Cleared respects it. If it is turned on, Android includes Cleared's ledger and settings in that backup. Receipt photographs are left out, and so is the identity that tells your phone apart from others, so a restored phone does not pretend to be the old one. Android backup is provided and stored by Google under Google's privacy policy; you can turn it off in your device's settings.
You can let another phone see one of your accounts, read-only. Nothing is shared until you choose an account and the other phone scans the code on your screen. From then on the two phones find each other on your local Wi-Fi network and the shared account's entries, scheduled entries and the categories they use are sent directly from your phone to the other one. No server is involved, and nothing passes through us or anyone else.
Receipts are captured through your device's own camera app, or chosen through the Android photo picker. Pairing codes for shared accounts are scanned with your phone's own camera app too. Cleared does not request camera or photo-library permissions, and receives only the single image you take or select. That image is copied into the app's private storage and is not uploaded.
Cleared shows a banner advertisement supplied by Google AdMob. To do this, Google's advertising software collects information from your device, which may include:
This is collected and used by Google, not by us. We receive only aggregate, anonymous reporting such as how many ads were shown — never anything identifying you, and never anything about the contents of your register. Google's handling of this data is described in the Google Privacy & Terms and in the AdMob documentation.
If you are in the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom or Switzerland, Cleared shows Google's consent form before any ad is requested, and your choice there governs what Google may collect. You can change that choice later from Settings → Support the App → Ad privacy choices. You can also reset or delete your advertising identifier at any time in your device's Android settings.
Supporting the app, as described below, stops the banner and the ad requests that go with it.
Cleared offers one optional subscription, which supports the app and removes the advertising banner. The transaction is handled entirely by Google Play; Cleared never sees your name, your payment details or your Google account. The app records only whether the subscription is active, as a yes-or-no value on your device, which it re-checks with Google Play. You can cancel at any time in the Play Store.
Promotional codes are redeemed in the Google Play Store rather than in Cleared. Entering a code in the app simply opens the Play Store with it filled in.

Cleared contains no crash-reporting or analytics software. If you have opted in to sharing diagnostics with Google Play on your device, Android may send Google anonymised crash information about apps including this one. That is a function of your device and your Google account, not of Cleared, and it is governed by Google's privacy policy.
Cleared is a personal finance tool intended for adults. It is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect information from them.
If this policy changes, the revised version will be published at this address with a new date at the top. Material changes affecting what is collected will also be noted in the app's release notes.
